Their story

From the field to the mentor's seat

I grew up a multi-sport athlete, playing lacrosse, soccer, and basketball (I also played flag football as a kid). With previous collegiate-athlete parents that also coached me, I learned quickly the how important sports are! In high school, I finished my basketball career as a 1000-point scorer, Captain, 6-year Varsity letter winner and multiple county/conference honors. As a lacrosse player, I scored over 100 goals and ended my career with 181 points, averaging just under 6 points/game my senior season. I was also named offensive MVP for 3 consecutive years with multiple all county/conference accolades. I committed to Howard University in the fall of my Senior year, earning a scholarship! And now I’m a division 1 women’s lacrosse player studying psychology with goals to propel the HU women’s lacrosse program forward and help to build the sport of lacrosse.

Why they mentor

“I’m a proud older sister and providing guidance or support in any way I can is a core belief of mine.Sports have taught me so much about myself and life in general and being able to share some of the things I’ve learned is an amazing oppourtunity. I have experiences with anxiety, impostor syndrome, performance anxiety, moving states, playing multiple sports, attending boarding school and more that I hope can help others during their journeys. I am very grateful to be where I am toady and without strong mentors in my parents and others, I wouldn’t have the confidence to show up, compete, and be me. To me, ABT is an opportunity to pay it forward. Also, as a psychology major on a pre-medicine track, the program’s core value and understanding of mental health is a cause near and dear to me, so engaing in the progress of mental health in sports is just everything.”
